Position Summary:

As a member of the Marketing team and in partnership with HR, the Communication Specialist will work with leaders in the Home Office and the businesses to drive employee understanding and engagement around Common Sail’s mission and initiatives.


Required Experience for a Communications Specialist:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field: Communications, Marketing, PR, etc.
  • A minimum of 2-3 years of communications experience
  • Must possess strong attention to detail skills
  • Passion for bringing simplicity and continuous improvement to all aspects of work
  • Familiar with social media platforms and WYSIWYG websites
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and independently.
  • A quick, strategic, and creative thinker with demonstrated success in translating broad concepts and ideas into clear, multi-channel communications

Primary Responsibilities of a Communications Specialist

  • Implement employee communications and engagement strategies
  • Own digital tools and relevant content (e.g., intranet) designed to drive clear, consistent messaging across the business
  • Determine appropriate mediums and technologies for effective distribution of all communications
  • Oversee message cascade (action and effectiveness) to business
  • Develop communication plans in collaboration with sponsors and stakeholders to execute strategic initiatives throughout the organization; support regional/seasonal communication initiatives (Open Enrollment, internal campaigns)
  • Measure, report, and adjust communications activities based on outcomes.
  • Monitor communication plans and critical milestones; identify process and operational challenges; own solution development
  • Own major end-to-end processes and events on a project, take initiative and use problem-solving skills to think beyond the task to the optimal desired outcome
  • Develop content (PPT, talking points, videos) and delivery for large-scale meetings
  • Develop and oversee guidelines and templates for internal communications such as email, handbooks, memos, ect.

General Working Conditions: This position entails standing for long periods of time.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to communicate effectively with others, sit, stand, walk and use hands to handle keyboard, telephone, paper, files, and other equipment and objects.  The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms.  This position requires the ability to review detailed documents and read computer screens.  The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The work environment requires appropriate interaction with others. The noise level in the work environment is moderate.  Occasional travel to different locations may be required.
